MAD MEN

Lately I've been obsessed with Mad Men!

(Image via amctv)

Yes, I know I am super slow and this show has been all the rage for the past FOUR seasons. But I'm so happy I got started on it because I am absolutely IN LOVE with this show! Not just for the drama but the hair, makeup, fashion, lifestyle and everything 60s! It seems like everyone is just so careless drinking and smoking all day. Makes me want to drink and smoke all day. Obviously that won't be happening...so for my birthday my lovely sister got me my very own little piece of 60s Mad Men keepsake.

 Pretty Packaging
 "Mei, Happy Birthday! -Jei"
 Pretty!
 DROOL...
It's mine!!! I love the 60s inspired packaging, and it is actually based off of Estee Lauder's packaging in the 60s!
The cream blush is very pigmented and it goes really nicely with the cherry lipstick!

I will be posting a look with these items for my birthday mad men themed tea-time at Tres by Jose Andres! Thanks Jei! I can't wait for our girly tea-time next week!

On a side note, I really want to host a Mad Men Party!

A Pleasant Birthday Surprise

Yesterday I was leaving the house and I found a fedex box on my doorstep. And I immediately thought, "oh goodie my replacement blade for my juicer is here!" But then I thought, wait that's not possible I just tracked the package that morning and it was still in the east coast. So of course my curiosity won me over and I just had to open the package before I stepped out. And here is my picture-tale...

Fragile?? What is this...
The anticipation builds
AWWWWW IT'S FROM MY DEAR FRIEND!!
A lovely birthday card...
and an array of wonderfully useful gifts!
Even Ticky got to play with the box.

This was seriously such a nice and unexpected surprise. When I read the card I literally said out loud, "awwww." I was so happy not just because I got a present but because someone actually took time out of their day to remember my birthday! Seriously Tudo, you are too amazing for words and I was so touched by this gift! Thank you, thank you, thank you! I love it so much I will do a post on a makeup look I can compile with your gift.

It's so nice to know that even though we may not talk or see each other nearly enough, we are still on each other's minds. =) Thank you lovely!

Setting up!

The last few weeks has been a whirlwind! I feel like everything is happening very quickly and I am loving every moment of it!

Currently in the process of setting up all my websites/blogs/social network stuff for my hair + makeup business. And of course I'm always building my portfolio! But I'm setting up an official photo shoot with a professional photographer to help shoot some marketing pics for a startup false eyelash company called Adore Curiosity. I'm very excited about this venture because I absolutely adore their lashes.

Working at the Thread show in Los Angeles was a hugely helpful experience for me. Not only did I get to interact with potential clients, I made a lot of great contacts and had the chance to work on all different skin types.

And thanks to all my lovely friends + sister that have been willing to be my test subjects!

I will link to the new blog as soon as everything is up and running!

Can't wait for Providence! Yum yum!

UPDATE: After numerous mentions from my sister that I have not yet updated this post, I'm finally getting around to it! All the wedding planning has been crazy so I'm glad I can finally take a breather and update my blog. I'm still working on the layout that is why everything is so empty and WHITE. Or maybe I should just keep it like this...

Providence
Los Angeles, CA

Amuse Bouche: Orange juice + vodka (on left), Mojito ice (on right)

Waiting eagerly for our nine course tasting menu

After the amuse bouche my photographer decided he would rather eat than watch me eat while he takes pictures. I had the nine course tasting with wine paring and it has some outstanding dishes and some dishes that were just okay. And am I the only person that doesn't know a wine paring consists of one full glass of wine with EVERY course??? By the end of the meal I can say I was sufficiently buzzed and I definitely was enjoying the food a lot more than in the beginning. The nine course with wine paring was $190 and I thought it was actually pretty reasonable considering the quality of food and amount of wine. Nine glasses for $65? That's quite a steal.

I won't list all nine courses because I can't remember them all and also because I think Providence is one of those restaurants everyone should try at least once. All of the food was presented beautifully, the service seemed a bit casual for such an upscale restaurant, but its was definitely a nice change.

Overall I was very satisfied and will definitely go back but maybe next time I will just get the five course tasting and no wine pairing...

Eyes. Lips. Face.

After waiting for an entire week my e.l.f. complete the look palette finally came!!

For $15, you get the following:
*60 eyeshadow colors in an assortment of matte and shimmer colors
*20 lip colors, it's not too glossy which is nice. But if you want it to look more shimmery just add a touch of gloss at the end!
*3 blushes
*2 bronzers

Initial thoughts on this palette, the eyeshadows are pretty pigmented but not as much as MAC so you do have to apply a few layers. The lip colors are meh by themselves but I haven't tried all of it yet, but when you mix the colors together you can get a pretty satisfying lip color, which is what I did in the picture. I thought the bronzers would be WAY too dark because they look so dark in picture, but actually when you apply it it's not too bad!

Overall, I think it's a great purchase for $15 dollars! Can't wait to try out all the other colors. This is a great buy if you're looking for certain seasonal colors, no point in spending $12 for a single eye color when you can get 60 for $15!

Spath
